Hi guys! Happy Monday and welcome back to another edition of my wedding series! In this post I’m going to tackle the high’s and low’s of wedding dress shopping.
So far, my experience has been pretty mediocre. I haven’t gone to a ton of bridal salon’s yet as I’m trying to take it easy during to holidays and just get through this busy time of year. However, Kleinfeld Bridal had a sample sale last week and I went with two of my bridesmaids. First, I was curious about the whole Kleinfeld “Say Yes To The Dress” experience, secondly, I was really excited to just start looking!
This is probably not the fairest review of the Kleinfeld experience as it was a sample sale, so that formal experience of being in the grand room and walking out to get approval from your friends and family was not as glamorous as expected during the sample sale.
There was pretty much just a room filled with dresses organized by price point. The idea was that you would rummage through the racks and select what you thought looked interesting and the bridal attendant assisted by taking the dresses back to the dressing room. There were tons of brides everywhere and the place was buzzing. Unfortunately, because it was a sample sale, a lot of the dresses were not in prime condition (I’m talking rips and tears and even discoloration for some). There also was not the best selection of designers.
The experience was all in all OK, nothing to be mad about but nothing to be excited about either. I loved actually trying on a wedding dress for the fist time! That was a major milestone for me. There definitely was something magical about seeing myself in a wedding dress in front of the bridal attendant and my bridesmaids.
After the Kleinfeld experience, I started to rethink where I would look for my wedding dress. I think my strategy is going to be to visit smaller boutique stores. I loved the grand appeal of Kleinfeld but I must admit it was a bit too much for me.
While looking for inspiration for my dress style on instagram and pinterest, I sometimes feel discouraged because I just haven’t come across that magical dress that just makes me scream in joy. Some dresses are too ornate or have too much lace or their too classic. I’ve seen a ton of dresses that have an element that I’m looking for but just not anything that makes me say to myself “that’s the one“. My top three features in a dress are a low and or detailed back, fit and flare silhouette and strapless or skinny straps (I think).

I know this process will be full of highs and lows but I honestly cannot wait to say yes to the dress. Any other brides out there struggling with finding the perfect dress? Let me know down below in the comment section how you’re dealing with it. Also any brides out there who had success stories with finding their dresses relatively quickly, I want to hear from you as well! Help a sistah out! lol

I have looked at so many dresses I was ready to give up. My issues was being a plus size bride and finding shops that carried plus size samples to try, that was what I was looking for and didn’t make me look like a whale as I still wanted to be a sexy bride lol.
For the style that you are looking for check out Kitty Chen and Christina Wu, I think you will be pleased.. Good luck

Thanks for the recommendation Melissa! I thought this would be a lot more fun and I would be the Bride that fell in love with her first dress but it looks like it will be the opposite. I’ll definitely check those places out! I’m going to more bridal salon’s when my mom comes up for the holidays so I’m trying to keep a positive outlook 🙂 Good luck to you as well! I think you will look beautiful in anything you decide <3
New pics. Love. And don’t worry your pretty little self. You will find your dress and you will slay in it *insert snaps*. Mwah

thanks bestie boo! I’ll look back at this day like a distant memory when I get the dress of my dreams lol
My favorite salon for the experience- Jane Elizabeth in Morristown. I also loved (and found my dress) at the Bridal Garden in NYC!
Wedding hack- for a more intimate experience, go during the week. I did that with Jane Elizabeth on a Friday, and it was amazing!
