Itchy Scalp? Here is a natural remedy

Hi Beauties!

Ever feel like washing your hair every other day? Do you have uncontrollable dandruff? Have you tried expensive remedies and don’t know what else to do about your sensitive, dry itchy scalp?? I have researched some all natural remedies to help ease your discomfort.

Dandruff and itchy scalp is extremely common among naturals, especially when transitioning. So, don’t be alarmed when your scalp begins to itch uncontrollably, it’s all apart of the process. Please also be aware that there are multiple scalp conditions out there that have nothing to do with “dandruff.” Just because it’s flaky, powdery and white doesn’t mean you have a dandruff condition.

According to an article by Trichologist, Dr. Kari Williams on www.naturalchica.com, there are three common scalp conditions; dermatitisseborrheic dermatitis and folliculitis.

Dr. Williams states, “Contact Dermatitis is the result of irritation or an allergic reaction to something that has come into contact with the scalp.” This condition is usually caused by chemicals and other ingredients from your shampoos and conditioners.

She goes on to say, “Folliculitis is an infection of the hair follicle and Staphylococcus aureus or other bacteria are often the culprits.”

Lastly, “Seborrheic dermatitis is characterized by excessive flaking, particularly around the

hairline. This particular scalp disorder is oftentimes mistaken as severe dandruff. The flakes in this condition are adhered to the scalp and may be have a yellowish tint, unlike dandruff which appears as powdery flakes that sit on the hair.”

To ease the discomfort from some of these scalp conditions use some of the oils you have in your collection to whip up a quick home made remedy instead of spending tons of money on over priced grease and anti-dandruff products (often times these products might not help solve the problem).

Natural remedies for itchy/dry scalp:

1. Lavendar oil

2. Eucalyptus oil

3. Avocado oil

4. German chamomile oil

Some of my favorite oils that also help in alleviating itchy scalp:

1. Coconut oil

2. Tea tree oil

3. Rosemary oil

4. Peppermint oil

Recipe #1

Mix 3/4 cup of water, 2 tbsp of tea tree oil, 2tbsp of olive oil, stir the mix together and apply the mix to your scalp, and let it sit for 15 minutes. Rinse hair with warm water and apply a mild shampoo.

Recipe #2

Add two drops of peppermint oil in a cup of water and massage the scalp gently with this solution for a few minutes. Wash hair with warm water and apply a moisturizing shampoo.  Similarly, warming jojoba oil and applying to the scalp will give similar results.

Recipe #3

Use a 8oz spray bottle, fill it 3 quarters the way with distilled water. Add a teaspoon of neem oil (or raw coconut oil). Add 6 drops of tea-tree oil. Add 10 drops of lavender oil. Lastly, add 6 drops of rosemary oil. Put the lid on the bottle and give it a good shake. Apply this mixture once or twice a day depending on severity of itch. Spray the remedy to the roots of hair and rub it in.

Always use pure essential oils that have not been fragranced or synthetically manufactured!!
