Introducing: Indie Designer Michelle creator of LLULO

Hi Beauties!

I’m very excited to introduce you to Michelle, creator of the indie fashion line LLULO. Michelle was sweet enough to take the time out of her busy day to do an exclusive interview with asiliglam.com to share what the inspiration behind her line was and how you can find the inspiration to follow your dreams!

Check out her in depth interview below.

NB: Introduce yourself.

Hi! My name is Michelle Olomojobi and I am 22 years old.  I was born in Houston, Texas and raised in Missouri City, Texas.  I have also lived in NY off and on for the past year!

NB: Where did the inspiration to start your line come from?

The inspiration to start my line came from the absence of modernized African clothing being in stores.  I wanted to find a way to make all people, no matter where you’re from feel comfortable wearing Ankara.  It is not just for parties and events.  I also just got extremely tired of generic clothing that everyone had.  Everything from LLULO is made to order and limited!

NB: How did you decide that you eventually wanted to become a designer?

I actually never wanted to be a designer.  Well, the word designer never came to mind.  I just knew I wanted to do something creative and hands on.  It’s so hard for me to take the title as designer.  The title has now stuck.  I always wanted to be behind the scenes.  I recently graduated this past Summer with a degree in Fashion Merchandising and a minor in business.  So, in my head, I was on my way to working in the corporate realm of fashion.  It’s crazy but I knew I wanted to be the owner of something since I was 7 years old.

NB: What do your parents and family think about you pursuing your dreams of being a designer?

My parents are very supportive.  It has been a roller coaster.  But, everyone is Team LLULO now.  Growing up in a Nigerian household, saying that you want to work in fashion is a life changing decision (lol). I use to lie to family members and say I wanted to be a doctor.  It took my mom sitting me down and saying don’t lie to ANYONE,  this is you and if they don’t accept you and your dreams, forget them.

NB: Who are your top three favorite designers?

My top three designers are Ituen Basi, Stella McCartney and Calvin Klein.

NB: What goes through your mind when creating a new design?

The thought of knowing that someone in the world will wear something I put together with my own hands is the main thing that goes on in my head.  That gives me  so much joy.

NB: How do you intend people to feel when wearing LLULO’s designs?

I want them to feel unique and confident.  I also want them to feel super cool knowing that not many people have the same design that they have on.

NB: What advice can you give other young designer’s hoping to follow in your footsteps?

FOLLOW YOUR DREAMS.  I truly believe that God put us here for purposes to fulfill.  When God puts something in your heart, it will come to pass in his time.  You have one life to live.  Why live it doing something you are unhappy doing?

NB: How would you describe your personal style?

My personal style is old school.  I live in my high waist jeans.  I love simple things, tons of color, and accessories.

NB:  How does LLULO work to give back to the community?

LLULO works with the Non-Profit Echoes of A Kora.  Echoes of A Kora provides school supplies for children in Africa who may not have the means to get them.  It is a wonderful organization! Check out the website: http://www.echoesofakora.org/

NB: What do you hope to achieve with this label?

I want to show people that may be scared to take a leap of faith and believe that everything is possible.  I want to create a foundation that also helps young women and men find creative outlets.

NB: What are you most excited about right now in fashion?

I love that people are actually taking risks and not caring about what anyone else thinks.  Actually I’m excited about style! Fashion can get a little boring at times.

NB: Anything else you would like to add?

Just follow your dreams.  No matter how hard it may be, follow your dreams.  Dreams do come true.  I’m an example.
