Over the past few months, a lot has changed with my hair.
It was long, I cut deep layers, It was auburn, I got highlights. It was hot, I got box brads (again..lol).
Long story short, here’s the scoop on what’s changed.
Regimen.
My regimen over the past few months has changed drastically! I’m happy to say that I’ve grown to love the simplistic approach to hair care. I shampoo about twice a month and co-wash every other day with my new favorite conditioner, Trader Joe’s Tea Tree Tingle Conditioner. It is the absolute best conditioner for every day use. It is salon quality and gives you that great slippery feeling that we all love! Best of all it works wonders while detangling. It moisturizes and leaves hair soft and volumnious. The thing that blew me away with this product was the fact that it’s ONLY $3.99 at your local Trader Joe’s grocery store. That’s right ladies, $3.99 for 16 oz! I couldn’t believe it when I stumbled upon this gem while grocery shopping one day. It’s the truth ya’ll! Try it and use it liberally!
After co-washing my hair with the Trader Joe’s Tea Tree Tingle Conditioner, I then use Beautiful Texures Curl Pudding and lastly I put Hair Rules Nourishment Leave-In to lock in moisture.
This has literally been my go-to method for the entire summer. My curls are frizz fee & bouncy even with the NYC humidity.
Color.
In the beginning of the summer, I went for something a bit more drastic and got some more color in my hair. If you remember, I got color back in November of last year (Read here). I wanted to get a little lighter for the summer so I ran over to Hair Rules salon to get my favorite colorist Aimee to work her magic!
I’ve had my highlights for about 4 months now, and I absolutely love it. It was perfect for the summer and gave me the right amount of edge I was looking for! I was of course nervous about going lighter, but it’s actually helped me in starting a healthier “wash-n-go” regimen. I have not used direct heat for the past 4 months and it’s been great! (Having my box braids for a month also helped!)
Those are the two major updates when it comes to all things hair for me! Here are some pictures of the hair transformation over the last few months!
Fall is coming sooner than we think! I’m thinking about going back to a darker ombre. Tell me what you think below!
Your color looks amazing! I've been contemplating getting color for years now – haven't got the courage yet. This just pushed me a little bit closer!

Love the color! Wow, it really looks amazing!
Thank you so much!
yay you're back! love love love your color! i've always been too scared of potential damage, but maybe i'll try it out next summer. here's hoping! 🙂
So happy to be back! And thank you very much…you should go for it! Color is fun..and if you are scared of the damage just try a rinse!!
Love the color!! I colored my hair too a few months ago but, I'm thinking about going a little darker for fall. Glad you're back.
Thank you!! It was great for summer, but I'm almost 100% sure I'm going darker for the fall..it just feels right lol
I love the color and the Ombre effect, it compliments your facial features and looks GREAT, I will have to hit up this Aimee (finding a good colorist in NYC Honey Child). But in terms of fall, you can always do a rinse to tone down the color or get low lights of a more milk chocolate/cinnamon at the roots to tone down the color. My POV I think it looks great the way it is.
Aww thank you so much!! Yes, Aimee is unreal, she's soo good..call her up for a consultation! And I like your point of view..Rinses are always a great way to tone down the color for the fall.
