2019 is the year of doing what’s best for myself and my family. Two key words that will allow me to do that are elevation & flexibility. I want to make the majority of my decisions around these two words as they are my theme for the year and beyond.
We all want to do something with our free time that’s both enjoyable, sustainable and lucrative! When I discovered Beautycounter, I realized I could do just that. Long story short, I first came in contact with the Beautycounter brand on my honeymoon. Yes, you read that right, on my honeymoon! To be even more specific, my brand new husband and I were on the beach relaxing drinking the Amalfi coast’s finest rose and sparked up a conversation with the couple next to us. Well, I really sparked up a conversation (let’s be honest lol).
We chatted about where we lived and what we were doing in Italy among a ton of other things. When we started talking about career, Tatum told me that she worked for a clean beauty company called Beautycounter. In full transparency, I had never heard of the company before. She told me about the great success she’s seen with the company and her business and how much flexibility she had as stay at home mom. Let’s be honest, I wasn’t making business connections on my honeymoon, so I continued with the conversation but didn’t think much more of it. Long story short, Tatum and I stayed connected well beyond just that day on the beach. We even met up with her and her husband later on in our honeymoon in Tuscany for a wine tasting tour (it was incredible might I add).
After returning home, we remained friends on Instagram to keep our connection going. Months after, I started to hear so much more about this Beautycounter brand on social media and on the inter-webs. I think I even caught a day time show singing their praises for advocating for cleaner beauty one day when I was working from home. I took all this as a sign and reached out to Tatum to get the inside scoop about what it was all about.
In true Tatum fashion she was so excited to chat with me and we immediately set up some time to have a phone conversation. She took the time to share with me that Beautycounter is a mission based company and a wellness brand with a bold ambition to get safer products into the hands of everyone.

Decades of studies indicate that serious health issues (including but not limted to asthma, cancer and infertility) are on the rise and due in some part to our ongoing exposure to toxic chemicals–whether it’s in the shower, on our commute, while we eat lunch at a local restaurant, or when we clean our kitchens at home. There are more than 80,000 chemicals on the market today. Many don’t have any safety data. This is particularly true to those used in the skin care and beauty industry. What’s worse is that the Food and Drug Administration (the agency that regulates cosmetics in the United State) does not have the authority to remove harmful ingredients from the products we put on our bodies and on our kids’ bodies every single day, day after day.

Now, I won’t pretend to be the most health conscious person but when I read that statistic about how many unregulated chemicals are out on the market today it really made me question what I put on my skin daily. I’m a makeup and skincare lover and I always want to purchase the hottest brand or the newest item on the market, so, if I can do my part in helping to spread the word on cleaner, safer beauty I’m going to take full advantage. Did you know that the $62 Billion beauty industry is regulated by approximately 2 pages of federal law? That’s even more reason to question the products we use on a daily basis.
It took me all of 2 minutes after my conversation with Tatum to come to realization that this is what I needed to start my year with. We often ponder on an opportunity too long and lose the courage to just go for it. I decided to take the plunge and sign up to be a Beautycounter Consultant and join the mission of getting safer products into the hands of everyone. And my personal mission to make sure that women of color know about this brand as well. We often get sucked into that black hole of celebrity products and and focus all our money on what’s hot and new and we forget about actually questioning if a product is actually safe for us. Trust me, I do it too and I have to slowly ween myself out of that cycle. But what Beautycounter promises is that we aren’t sacrificing quality by choosing safer products for our skin. In fact, they ensure that the products are as indulgent as any other luxe product on the market that you love.
If you were to ask me why Beautycounter, I would say this:
Beautycounter resonated with me not just because of it’s incredible mission but also because of the thousands of passionate women from all walks of life who support this company. I want to continue to help spread that passion to other women, especially women of color and shout the tremendous benefits of clean beauty everywhere all while helping to fulfill my goals of elevation and flexibility in the new year and beyond.
So, with that being said, here’s to a fruitful 2019! One full of doing what’s best for myself and my family and sharing the good news about cleaner, safer beauty that doesn’t come at the cost of quality. It may or may not be for you, but would you be open to giving cleaner beauty a try this year? What’s the worst that could happen? With over 1,500 questionable or harmful chemicals on their Never List, Beautycounter is committed to giving you better because you deserve it.
Stay tuned as I’ll be doing some local social events to bring women together to experience Beautycounter products very soon. If you aren’t able to attend one of these socials in person, not to worry! I’ll connect with you digitally!
Let me know in the comments section below if you are willing to give cleaner beauty a try.

Congratulations cousin Natasha! Two things; 1. Do you carry any products for men?
2. I don’t wear makeup but I am interested in cleansing products and mascara.
Hi there, are these products for all ethnicities? If so I am very interested. Your skin is gorgeous btw 🙂
