Let’s Talk Honeymoon

While wedding planning you would think that the honeymoon planning is at the top of the list right? Wrong! So far the honeymoon has been the most fleeting thing we’ve discussed. I think the honeymoon is super important to plan up front so I’ve been thinking about it more and more.  In discussing options, we’ve come across a major dilemma. Do we travel far and exotic and take the trip of a lifetime days after the wedding or do we take a more practical approach and go to a destination only a couple hours away. Originally, I thought I would want to travel long and far to go my dream destination, but in thinking about how we will feel realistically after a wedding I’m now second guessing if that’s the right option for us. I can just imagine after the wedding dreading taking a 12 hour flight just to get to the beach. I’m not sure if this is just a figment of my imagination or if I’ll actually feel this way. Regardless, I figured that we better think of both destinations near and far.

Ok, hear us out. Here are some locations we have in mind. Can you help us narrow it down?

Near:

1.Anquilla (4 hours from NYC)

2.St. Barthes (6 hours from NYC)

3.Bali (21 hours from NYC)

4.South Africa (16 hours from NYC)

Where should we go? Where should we consider? Are we not thinking of a better destination? Keep in mind, we would prefer a more beach/tropical oriented honeymoon. Help us decide by leaving a comment below. Tell me if you’ve been to any of the above locations and let us know where you think we should go.

Thank you!!

Lol thank you expert! I didn’t know you went to St.Lucia! I’ve always wanted to go & it’s not that far. What do you think about traveling super far after a wedding? Think it’s worth it? (Think about that 20 hour flight you just did) lol

I definitely think you should go to one of the islands close by like Turks and Caicos. Though the far trip may give you time to just relax n catch up on sleep on the flight. If you go close by the first day you’re definitely just going to sleep the first day away.

I agree Anika! I think a close by destination is sounding better and better lol Plus when we get back we won’t have to fight jet lag!

Hahaha.. that’s where we are going St. Lucia and we are staying at the Sandals Resorts in on of their private butler suites with the private pool.. I have read mixed reviews about the Butler suits but We are gonna give it a try.. Next to finding the perfect venue the honeymoon destination is teeth pulled.. I know for us is was trying to find somewhere we both had never been and both wanted to go. It took us a good two to three month of researching before we made out pick.

yay! two votes for St. Lucia!! That’ great!! I gotta do some research on the Sandals Resorts. Thank you so much for leaving a comment to tell me about your honeymoon selection. That’s the biggest thing for my fiancé and I as well, we both want to go somewhere new and experience it together for the first time as husband and wife.

Great read! I say go for one of the close islands!! From experience, after a year of wedding planning and the excitement and exhaustion surrounding big day, you’re going to want to get to paradise FAST!! To me, there are vacations and trips.. and for a honeymoon I vote vacation! You’ll appreciate an experience where you’re pampered, don’t have to travel far, “plan as much” or deal with logistics of “island hoping and transfers” etc. You’ll get the R&R you and your husband deserve and TRUST me.. will NEED. You can also incorporate a day or two of excursions of you want! There’s nothing like your honeymoon❤️ That all said, you have some great destinations on the list!! Take a “trip” to one of the further destinations for your one year anniversary when you’ll be well rested and ready to explore!

Thanks so much for the comment, Monica! I’m right there with you. I want to get to paradise fast and in a hurry. I think I’m pretty convinced that we will be staying in the Caribbean region. We both love the beach! Your idea about putting the destination that’s further on hold until the year one anniversary is a great idea! We can look forward to checking off a new destination together as husband & wife. Great insight. Thank you!

    St, Lucia or Virgin Islands

Mexico may be far, I have seen some great post about Tulum lately. Something to consider, and look at what places are reasonable or hot spots during the time of your wedding.

Yessss love Mexico! We went to Cancun for our 3 year anniversary last year. I wanted to go to Cabo for my bachelorette so trying to stay away from Mexico for the honeymoon. But absolutely love that destination. Thank you so much for commenting!
